2008 Volunteer Committees

 

Admissions/Will Call: Check tickets at Admissions Gates, operate cart shuttles to bring elderly and handicapped spectators on-course, and oversee Will Call.  Wednesday - Sunday.

Caddies/Practice Facilities: Hospitality for the pro's caddies including registration and servicing the player’s driving range and practice green. Early morning shifts. Tuesday - Sunday.

Carts: Inventory, maintenance and distribution of carts to tournament staff and officials. Early morning shifts. Tuesday - Sunday.

Communications: Assist with distribution of radios to staff and volunteers. Monitor communications between all committees and the golf tournament. Early morning shifts. Tuesday - Sunday. 

Course Distribution: Distribution of water/beverages, pairings guides and newspapers to corporate tents/sky boxes and tee boxes. Requires physical lifting. Early mornings. Tuesday - Sunday.

Laser Operators: Operate a trigger-controlled laser to spot and measure players’ tee and fairway shots or a survey grade laser to take measurements of shots on the green from a green side platform. Training is provided by Champions Tour before Tournament. Friday – Sunday.

Leaderboards: Post individual hole scores and totals on a manual leaderboard. Friday – Sunday.

Marshals/Spotters: Responsible for gallery control on each hole and major traffic areas on-course. Marshals not working with a specific group or hole will be placed on a non spectator hole as a spotter for the pros/amateurs. Wednesday – Sunday.

Media: Work in Media room during the week assisting with media officials, credentials, stories and other general support duties. Tuesday - Sunday.

Merchandise: Assist with various functions within the Merchandise Tent such as tent greeters, cashiers, baggers and checkers of previously purchased merchandise. Wednesday - Sunday.

Office: General office operation duties and staffing of the Tournament Office prior to and during Tournament Week. Before  the tournament as needed. Monday - Sunday.

Player Transportation: Work at the Des Moines Airport supplying transportation to pros and TOUR officials upon their arrival. Also provide transportation services during event week for players and officials as needed. Most shifts will be located offsite at the Des Moines airport. Before, during, and after tournament week. Some early morning and late evenings based on Player Flights.

Pro-Am: Hospitality and package distribution for amateurs competing in the Pro-Am's. Early mornings. Tuesday – Thursday.

Scoring Tent/Runners: Monitor scoring activities in scoring tents and distribute scores to scoring control and media. Friday – Sunday.

Security: Monitor and control course hospitality and clubhouse areas. Wednesday - Sunday.

Shuttles: Operate van shuttles around the perimeter of the course picking up and dropping off volunteers. Shuttles start early in the morning and may run until late evening depending on tee times. Tuesday - Sunday.

Standard Bearers: Carry player identification signs, walking all 18 holes. Must be able to walk 18 holes. Wednesday – Sunday.

TV/Spotters: Assist the Golf Channel with operations during the Championship rounds. Friday - Sunday.

Uniforms: Assist with Uniform Distribution before the event (usually in April) and extra uniform sales during event. At uniform distribution before the event and Everyday during the event.

Volunteer Check-In: Check-In volunteers and disperse meal vouchers. Help answer general volunteer questions. Tuesday - Sunday.

Volunteer Headquarters: Assist in Volunteer Headquarters with meals and help answer general volunteer questions. Tuesday - Sunday .

Walking Scorers: Score the pros throughout their rounds with a hand-held Palm Pilot. Must be able to walk 18 holes. Wednesday – Sunday.
