Zach Johnson commits to 2026 Principal Charity Classic

Iowa native and major champion returns home to compete at Wakonda Club

(Des Moines, Iowa) — The Principal Charity Classic announced today that Iowa native and major champion Zach Johnson has committed to compete in the 2026 tournament, returning home to play in front of fans at Wakonda Club, June 10-14, 2026.

A native of Cedar Rapids, Johnson is widely regarded as the most accomplished golfer in Iowa history, with major championship victories at the 2007 Masters Tournament and The 144th Open Championship in 2015. A 12-time PGA TOUR winner, Johnson has represented the United States in five Ryder Cups and served as Captain of the 2023 U.S. Ryder Cup Team, further cementing his legacy as one of the game’s most respected competitors.

Johnson’s return to Des Moines marks a meaningful homecoming and gives fans across the state the opportunity to watch one of their own compete on the PGA TOUR Champions stage.

Since joining PGA TOUR Champions, Johnson has made an immediate impact, highlighted by an early victory and strong performances against some of the game’s most recognizable names—continuing the form that defined his PGA TOUR career.

“It’s always special to come back and play in Iowa,” said Johnson. “The support I’ve received throughout my career from people across the state means a great deal to me, and I’m looking forward to competing at Wakonda Club and being part of an event that creates such a positive impact in the state of Iowa.

Tournament officials emphasized the significance of Johnson’s early commitment and what it means for fans and the broader Iowa community.

“Zach is someone Iowa golf fans have followed and supported throughout his entire career, said Alex McCarty, Tournament Director of the Principal Charity Classic. “Having him compete at Wakonda Club is a special moment for our fans and a reflection of the strong connection between this event and the communities we serve.”

The Principal Charity Classic, a PGA TOUR Champions event, has become one of the most impactful sporting events in the state, generating more than $73 million for Iowa youth charities since its inception.

Fans will have the opportunity to see Johnson compete alongside a field of golf’s legends when the tournament returns to Wakonda Club this June. Tickets for the 2026 Principal Charity Classic are on sale now. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here
